Right
of Passage
This
is an excerpt from The
House of Ma-Chi,
where Jasper is trapped in a dingy basement and meets the nutty
Computoaster, who after
some confusion helps him deal with a formidible Snapper
blocking his way.
It's an extension of the earlier piece, Computoaster Science,
and it's also quite a big moment for Jasper because it's
the first time (so far in his movie career) that he has to deal
with danger.
This
is the first in a series of short clips I'm putting together.
In it, Jasper gets a flat tyre in the middle of nowhere (ie
everywhere) and gets to fix it in a pretty bizarre way. There's
magic, unexpected bangs,
and a very odd puncture kit.
And
the series? Check out Journey
to Legasus for a preview of where things are going.
And watch this space for Ep2: Water!. Coming soon.
In
March 2003 Nokia tested their G3 mobiles in the Asian
Market. To showcase the phones' video feature it had
some built in movies - and Jasper was there! Just 10
seconds long, this one has him dealing with a pesky
fly as only Jasper can!
Also
a 10 sec clip, this one follows on from 'Flycatcher',
as one bizarre invention leads to another
I
enjoyed this one - particularly the pedal powered jet contraption,
although 10 secs was too short to tell the story nicely. So
I've recycled the idea in
The House of Ma-Chi.
I made these two clips as an experiment in video ringtones
for mobile phones. I've always liked the idea of Jasper
doing gumboot dancing, and
a video ringtone seemed a great place to do it.
Feel free to download and use them if you have a 3G
phone, but you'll have to do the conversion yourself.
Sorry about that.
In
the early days of 3ds Max I was beta testing for Character Studio
and I needed something to test drive its 'Biped' module. The result
was the 'Wireplane' clip which I put on my showreel. This ended
up in New York (thanks Hannes!) where it was picked up by the cable
channel Noggin, who asked for two more of the same. This is not
Jasper as I intended him, but they're quite fun in their way.
Wireplane
The
very first Jasper animation - note the basic modelling - and
no ears! That's Kickstart the two legged scooter in the background,
in his previous incarnation before becoming what he is now.
Jasper
gets into some airborne trouble and has to get himself out
with some quick thinking. Of course, he doesn't think it through
properly, so things go a little haywire...
A
discarded bottle can be very useful if you're on foot in a
desert, in need of transport, and of an inventive turn of
mind. A bizarre hovercraft with a difference!
